ICT funding is an issue for all internationally focused NGOs, particularly given their intentional emphasis on mission and programs. The NetHope Shared Services Program can assist NGOs through both strategic cost management and capacity building, with the overall goal of standardizing and reducing back-office spending for program growth by deploying scalable technologies, processes, and standards.
NetHope launched the Shared Services Initiative in 2008 with seed funding from members and help from grants by Accenture and the Rockefeller Foundation. An assessment team performed due diligence with NetHope members…completing business plans, governance models, cost / pricing models, and an implementation plan. Two pilots were launched: Help Desk and Procurement. These pilots will last for 12 months in duration, including 4-5 months for start-up implementation activities and 7-8 months of carefully monitored operation. In addition, the team developed a long-term roadmap that shows how Shared Services offerings can logically expand to other functions, other geographies and other organizations in 2010.
