School Connectivity in Eastern Europe
Source: Catholic Relief Services
The School Connectivity project links 77 secondary schools in southeast Europe, including the war-torn
regions of Bosnia and Kosovo, with their counterparts in the United States. The project web site has
become a safe, friendly online space where students explore fundamental questions of identity and
cooperation, in learning activities titled "Who am I?" and "What can we build together?" Students
learn communication and team-building as well as cultural tolerance, and even develop joint projects.
The purpose of the project is to promote dialogue and understanding across national and ethnic lines
and facilitate joint learning and project work, eventually integrating the online experience into the
overall school curriculum. In the process, personal and institutional ties develop among the students,
educators and schools involved.
