Collaborative Portal Supports HIV/AIDS Workers

Source: Catholic Relief Services

Managing an ever-growing stream of information and expanding knowledge on the diagnosis, treatment and epidemiology of HIV/AIDS is challenging even for health care workers in industrialized Western nations with access to the latest technology. For staff in developing nations with disadvantaged infrastructure and widely varying levels of computer skills, the challenge can be enormous. Coordinating logistics and budgets through time-consuming face-to-face meetings while trying to keep up with the latest antiretroviral therapies is a daunting task.

In a promising new pilot project, a collaborative knowledge portal is helping member staff work together to manage day-to-day logistics as well as access the latest information on clinical care, drug procurement, grant compliance and more. Users can develop joint action plans and share basic knowledge, while quick links to selected data from the United Nations, World Bank and the AIDS Alliance keep everyone up to speed on the latest statistics, research and news.
